Chapter Ten
Taryn: “Date night?”
“Hey, you.” I smile as I see her, but she’s walking out of the building, with…no shoes. Uh oh! “Oh… Oh boy. Wanna talk about it?” I ask as I open her car door for her.
“No...” she says trying not to cry.
“Well, okay…” I close her door after she gets in and I keep my ears open for her because I know she’s going to spill as soon as I turn the car on.
“Oh, my God, Taryn, it was horrible!” she says as I get into the car with her.
“Yeah?”
“I was crying the whole fucking time and Hartley was like being really hard on him. Aww, and Scott was so sweet about me, but he keeps screwing me over. I thought he hated me or something, but he doesn’t,” she says. “I look like hell, huh?”
“Umm, no. Not really… You look like a very successful young lady that had a shitty day.”
“Damn,” she says as she sighs.
“Baby, don’t worry. Just be a reference for him and he’ll get hired at some other firm in no time,” I assure her.
“Um, yeah?”
“Yep.”
“Babe, it was horrible. Hartley was heartless with him. He was like, ‘do ya know how many times Delgado has put herself on the line for you’ and so on. Scott was crying and shaking the whole time and then when he was like, ‘what about my family sir?’ Hartley goes, ‘well, you don’t care about your family enough to do your job, why should I care?’ and then Scott started bawling and that’s when I lost it. Frankie was like, ‘damn’ and had to turn away at that point. It was soo gut-wrenching,” she says.
“Goodness, sounds like a horror show,” I respond.
“Oh, and then Scott turns to me and goes, ‘Elaine please!’ and I lost it again. I cussed him out after Frankie repeated what I said in the hallway, remember?”
“Ohh yeah,” I say as I recall that hallway cuss out session which leads up to a great office quickie. “Hmm…” I snicker. “Mmm, I sure do remember,” I say suggestively.
“Yeah, I’m glad we had that quickie because I would’ve killed Scott.”
“Yeah?” I laugh at that as I imagine how she could be if she hadn’t been relaxed.
“Ohh yeah… I would’ve walked in there with a loaded gun at a knife fight,” she says then she pauses as she remembers something else. “Oh shit, babe. I tripped on the way out because of the heels I’m wearing,” she says laughing. “What a dork I am.”.
“You tripped? Did they see you do it?”
“Oh, hell yeah, I’m sure they heard me say shit too about tripping,” she says laughing a little harder.
“Ha, ha, ha! That’s my girl. That’s exactly why I love you.” I pucker up for a kiss and she leans over and kisses me twice.
“I love you so much, babe.”
“How much?”
“Umm, I’ll have to show you sometime after you make me feel better,” she says.
“Yeah? Wanna’ go out to dinner and have like an actual date?”
“Oh, my God, really? I haven’t been on a date since umm, well…high school,” she admits.
